Discover our library
The collection consists of books, magazines and journals from various Latin American countries. Our collection can be searched through the central catalogue of the University of Amsterdam. There are also facilities for reading, studying, and making photocopies
The whole CEDLA collection can be searched through the central catalogue of the UvA (University of Amsterdam). The Library is arranged according to land/regio. Use this catalogue to find books, (electronic) journals, databases, maps, letters and pictures in the collections of the Library of the University of Amsterdam
The entry point to databases, library catalogues, electronic journals, electronic dissertations and a selection of quality websites. All students and staff members of the UvA have access to the Digital Library. You can also access the Digital Library outside the UvA domain by using the UvAvpn service. The personalized services are only accessible after logging in with your UvAnetID
UvA and HvA students do not need a separate library card. The student card is also valid as a library pass. UvA and HvA staff may obtain a free library card from any UvA library on showing a recent pay slip and aid ID. Others may obtain a library card at the circulation desk of any UvA library. You must valbe over 18 (university students excepted) and have a permanent address in the Netherlands for at least 3 months
The total number of journals is now 1222, of which 372 are available digitally. CEDLA has a journal database. For this database, you need Microsoft Access on your computer. In this database you can search for journals by title, country, or signature, there is a list of digital magazines and a complete list of periodicals in alphabetical order. Magazines with the words "OPEN ACCESS" are free digitally available for everyone
Special Collections and Maps
CEDLA has 20.000 microfiches, 3500 microfilms on the history of Latin America, and a selection of maps of Latin America and the Caribbean. The library offers a facility to view, study and copy microfilm and microfiche material. For consultation please contact our staff
